The Spring Hill, Kansas, School District, USD 230, provides
quality educational opportunities to its students and has been
recognized at the state level and nationally for its academic,
community service and technology programs.

- District encompasses 71 square miles, including portions of
Johnson and Miami Counties
- Six schools, including three elementary schools (preschool
through Grade 5), one middle school (Grades 6 through 8), a high
school (Grade 9 through 12), and a virtual high school

classified and administrators
- About 70 percent of the faculty hold Masters Degrees or higher,
and have an average of 15 years experience
- Excellent pupil-teacher ratios
- All district schools met Annual Yearly Progress standards
set by the state for the sixth year in a row

The Board of Education is composed of seven unpaid local
citizens, who are elected by patrons in the district. The Board sets
policies by which the schools operate and approves hiring faculty
and staff to administer these policies. Board meetings, which are
open to the public, are usually held at 7 p.m. on the second and
fourth Mondays of each month (see
schedule) at the Spring Hill Elementary School, 300 S. Webster,
Spring Hill, Kansas.

This district does not discriminate against any applicant,

origin, or handicap in the educational programs or activities, which
it operates.
The Spring Hill School District meets all requirements for
accreditation by the Kansas State Department of Education.
All teachers must meet state certification requirements, and hold
at minimum a Bachelor's Degree. All teachers must complete additional
study to retain certification.
Enrollment is to be completed during the month of August.
Information concerning enrollment may be obtained from the Board of
Education Office or at each school.
Age: Pupils enrolling in kindergarten must be
five years old on or before August 31 of the year in which they
enroll. Pupils entering school for the first time at the first grade
level must be six years old on or before August 31 of the current
year. Age verification is required. Kansas law makes no provision
for waiving student age requirements.
Residence: All children, who have an actual legal
residence in the school district and meet the legal age
requirements, are entitled to attend the public schools unless
excused, excluded, or suspended in accordance with the terms of
Kansas law and policies of the Board. Children in grades K through
12, living outside the school district, will not be admitted to
district schools unless they meet the criteria of USD 230 Policy JBC,
or by special permission by the superintendent of schools.
Health: All students enrolled in the Spring Hill
School District must have certification from a licensed physician or
local health department stating that they have received (or are in
the process of receiving and will have completed within 90 days
after admission to the school) tests and inoculations as are deemed
necessary by the Secretary of the State Department of Health and
Environment. For further information, call any of the district’s
schools and ask for the nurse.
Depending upon available room, all students (grades K-5) living
north of 191st street will attend classes at Prairie Creek
Elementary School. Students living south of 191st street will attend
school at Spring Hill Elementary School for grades K-2, and then
Spring Hill Intermediate School for grades 3-5. Spring Hill Middle
School accommodates all students in grades 6-8. Students in grades
9-12 will attend Spring Hill High School. The Spring Hill School
District encompasses 71 square miles, and

A breakfast and lunch program is served at each school. Students
may bring a lunch if they prefer. Students meeting certain income standards set by
the federal government are eligible for free or reduced priced
meals. A Nutrition Benefit application for reduced price or free
meals is required, and available on the
Food Service page.
The district provides transportation to and from school for
students living 2.5 miles or more from school. Transportation
arrangements for special education students will be made to meet
their needs. Transportation is provided on a pay basis for students

Spring Hill schools have a textbook usage fee. Students are
required to pay for some additional items used for individual
projects, such as in woodworking, arts, etc.
The middle school and high school offer a wide range of
activities and athletics for all students. The district is a member
of the Frontier League as well as the Kansas State High School
Activities Association.
USD 230 provides a continuous maintenance program for all
district buildings. A partial refurbishment program is performed in
each attendance center annually.
