Graduation 2017

GRADUATION WILL TAKE PLACE SATURDAY, MAY 20, 2017 AT 2:00 P.M. IN THE MAIN HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM.

 

IN CONSIDERATION OF THE BUSY SPRING SCHEDULES OF PARENTS AND ADMINISTRATORS, THRE WILL BE A SENIOR PARENT MEETING TUESDAY, MARCH 28 AT 8:30 A.M. IN THE HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM.  COMMITTEES WILL BE FORMED FOR THE MANY PARENT-ORGANIZED EVENTS LEADING UP TO AND INCLUDING THE CEREMONY.

Attendance is suggested but not required, and contact information for the committee chairs will be posted on this website immediately following the meeting.

If you are not able to attend this meeting but would like to chair or be a part of one of the following committees please contact Jenni Leaton at leatonj@usd230.org or (913) 592-7276 with your name, contact information, and committee(s) you would be interested in.

 

BACCALAUREATE COMMITTEE

The Baccalaureate is a parent-driven ceremony of worship in celebration of and thanksgiving for lives dedicated to learning. Students, parents and family members are welcome and encouraged to attend, but attendance is not required as this is not a school-sponsored event. This committee is responsible for all aspects of the Baccalaureate event including setting the date, program content, decorations and venue.

DECORATING COMMITTEE - Senior Breakfast & Graduation Ceremony

The Decorating Committee is responsible for decoration of both the senior breakfast and the graduation ceremony (decoration design, supply procurement and setup).  Committee also assistas with the hanging of senior posters for the senior breakfast.

SENIOR BREAKFAST COMMITTEE - Friday, May 19 @ 7 a.m.

The senior breakfast will take place Friday, May 19 in the top part of the SHHS gymnasium.  This committee determines the menu, procures volunteers and donations, and coordinates setup and cleanup of the breakfast.

SLIDESHOW VIDEO (OPTIONAL)

If parents of seniors decide a slideshow is desired (typically shown at senior breakfast), individuals are needed to gather digital photos and scan hard copies, coordinate the return of paper photos to parents, and create and run the slideshow.

GREETING CARDS - Friday, May 19 @ 7 a.m.

1-3 parents are needed to place parent greeting cards on the graduates' seats prior to the rehearsal.

SENIOR POSTERS - displayed at senior breakfast Friday, May 19

Parents are welcome to bring senior collage posters to the breakfast as a fun way to display highlights from past years along their paths to the big day. Parents are asked to bring posters to the breakfast or to the school Thursday evening and hang them up themselves with hanging materials brought from home (painter's tape, zip ties, etc.).  No supplies will be provided.  Please be sure to take home all posters after the breakfast.

 

CAP AND GOWN/GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENT ORDERS

Herff Jones is the official provider of graduation caps and gowns for Spring Hill High School.  All seniors participating in the graduation ceremony must wear an official Herff Jones cap, gown and tassel.  The graduation gown was redesigned and used in the 2015 and 2016 graduation, so students are welcome to borrow a gown from a friend or sibling who graduated those years. Students who are not able to afford the purchase of a cap & gown set may be able to receive assistance to ensure that each graduate is able to participate.  Please contact Jenni Leaton at leatonj@usd230.org if you have financial concerns about ordering a cap & gown set.

SENIOR FEES

All school fees must be paid in full by May 1 in order for seniors to participate in the graduation ceremony.  Please check Skyward and make arrangements to have all fees paid prior to May 1.

 

SENIOR EMAILS/SCHOLARSHIPS

Seniors and early graduates are encouraged to check their school email often for important information regarding graduation events as well as deadlines and information for many scholarships.  In addition, scholarship informaiton can be found on the SHHS Scholarship website.

 

GRADUATION CEREMONY INFORMATION

The graduation ceremony will be begin a 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Doors open to the public at 12:30 p.m. with NO EARLY ADMITTANCE. No food or drink will be allowed inside the gym. Graduating seniors are asked to report to the commons at 1:30 p.m. in graduation gowns and caps.

There is no limit to the number of guests, however, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The front rows of bleachers (upper and lower levels, east and west sides of the gym) are designated for mobility-challenged individuals only. The elevators will be operating that day as well.

PARKING: Due to construction, overflow parking for graduation will be at Wolf Creek Elementary School at 19250 S. Ridgeview Rd. Shuttle buses will be provided.  Families are STRONGLY encouraged to use the bus lane to drop off passengers needing assistance at the curb near the front entrance of the school before parking. Golf cart shuttles will also run throughout the parking lot AT THE HIGH SCHOOL ONLY for individuals with mobility challenges who must walk from the parking lot.

A sign language interpreter will be present for the ceremony. Please contact Jenni Leaton at leatonj@usd230.org or (913) 592-7276 to reserve seating near the interpreter.

 

GRADUATION PHOTOGRAPHY

Lifetouch will provide photography services during the graduation ceremony.  Each student will be photographed as he or she crosses the stage and again as they pass under the decorated arch to the right of the stage.  Watch your email for more information and ordering instructions.

PROM - April 22

Tickets for Prom will be available in April from Mrs. Cline.  All class dues must be paid in full.  Once payment of class dues is verified, seniors wishing to attend Prom must see Mrs. Cline to pick up tickets. There is no additional admission charge for SHHS juniors and seniors (including December graduates). However, there will be a fee for outside dates and SHHS underclassmen. More information will be made available as the date gets closer.


FACEBOOK

A closed Facebook group has been created for the Parents of SHHS 2017 Graduates!  We have found in past years that a this is a convenient means of staying informed and reminded of upcoming graduation events. Please consider joining this closed group.
