Where am I?

One District, One Bookâ„¢ Business Sign-up

January 18, 2017

In February our school district will be launching a special project, a district-wide book club called One District, One Book®.  This program is designed to create a shared reading experience across an entire community.  Each student will receive a classic children’s novel, and every family reads that book together at home.  Every family in our school community reads the same book at the same time.  We’ll maximize the shared reading experience by including enrichment activities at school and in the community.  Students experience the story with their family and enjoy participating in the follow-up activities.  This strategy builds daily awareness of the details of each story and encourages attentive listening habits.

We are seeking community partners to share this experience with our students.  Partners will receive the following:

1)    Book. Each participating employee at your business will receive a copy of the book. They will be expected to follow the same reading timeline as our students.  We hope students will engage with your employees about what they have read.

We will also provide a copy of the book for your waiting room/lobby, if applicable.

2)    Pin.  Participating employees will receive a pin to wear each day (from February 21 through March 9) to let students know they can talk to that adult about the book.

3)    Poster and Standee.  You will receive a poster to display in your front window and a standee for your front desk to let parents and students know you are a participating business.  We will also send a listing of participating businesses to our parents.

We are excited to launch this project and hope you’ll participate.  If you are interested in becoming a community partner, please complete the online survey.  If you have questions about the project, please contact Dr. Karen Brack, brackk@usd230.org, or Misty Eytcheson, eytchesonm@usd230.org.
