Board Discusses Long-Range Needs, Calendar Options
At the Feb. 8th Board of Education meeting, members discussed the long-term needs of the district, including
maintenance and technology needs as well as facilities expansion. In
response to the reduced state funding for schools, the board also discussed
a calendar option that features extended days and a shortened school
year as a cost-savings measure. More information about the calendar
proposal can be found on the board's
web page, listed under
the Feb. 8th meeting's discussion items. Board members will continue
to evaluate the calendar proposal as well as other cost-cutting
options.
Anyone with questions or comments about the calendar option or
other possible cost-saving measures should email those to
board office. Questions will be compiled and considered by board
members. To date, the Spring Hill School District has sustained more
than $500,000 in funding reductions by the state. The district also
may face an additional $1 million cut for the 2010-2011 school year.

Glory Comes Home to the Intermediate School
Fifth graders at Spring Hill
Intermediate School were recently honored to raise a "new" U.S. flag
in front of the school. The flag had flown over Bagram Air Base in
Afghanistan earlier this year. It was sent from
student Jake Van Daele's cousin, who is serving there in the U.S.
Navy. Bryan Fields, Van Daele's cousin, shared the flag as a thank
you to the students in Marissa Cowan's class who had sent holiday
cards to Fields and others in his battalion. |
